Make a day of it
St. James' Park is unusually central, so the city itself is the pre-match fan zone. The practical decisions are the uphill approach, venue door policy and the long climb to the away tier.
Use the mapped station pubs, then walk uphill through the centre to the Leazes turnstiles.
Eat or sightsee by the Tyne, leaving a generous uphill transfer before turnstiles open.
Use St James or Monument Metro, or reserve a lawful city-centre garage outside the stadium streets.
11:00 - arrive at Central station and use a mapped friendly or check-first venue.
13:25 - begin the uphill walk and move around to Leazes turnstiles 91-94.
13:50 - enter early enough for searches, 140 steps and concourse queues.
17:00 - descend carefully and let the first Metro and city-centre traffic surge clear.
The Head of Steam and Newcastle Tap are mapped mixed-supporter friendly. Percy Arms, Trent House and The Strawberry are check-first, Newcastle city centre is the recommended wider area, and Level 7 has its own concourse.
Grainger Market, the Castle and the Quayside are easy additions from Central station. The Great North Museum is close to the stadium, but protect enough time for searches and the Level 7 climb.
These options keep the final matchday journey relatively short. Compare event-night prices, parking and cancellation terms before booking.
A central base is usually better for the station, food and the evening after the match.
Travel, parking, ticket allocations and stadium procedures can change by fixture. Check the latest information from both clubs and the relevant operator before travelling. Guide checked 30 September 2026.
