Newcastle United travel guide

Getting there & parking

St. James' Park is an away-day destination where the final approach matters. Check the fixture information before travel because parking, segregation and coach arrangements can change.

Parking options

Compare official and private matchday parking

Official matchday parking

St. James' Park has no general matchday parking for visiting supporters. City-centre multi-storeys such as Eldon Square, Grainger Town and the Stowell Street area operate independently and can fill; check event hours, height limits and the post-match exit before travel.

Accessible parking and drop-off are limited and pre-arranged through the clubs. Away coaches receive a designated route from Newcastle United's safety office.

Private matchday parking

JustPark lists reservable managed spaces and private driveways in Newcastle upon Tyne. Search around the stadium postcode, then check the real walking route, access window and cancellation terms before booking.

Private spaces are independent of the club; a very close driveway may still sit inside the post-match traffic queue.

Availability, prices and access arrangements can change by fixture. Always check the booking details before travelling.

By train

Newcastle Central is around a 15-20 minute uphill walk through the city centre. St James Metro station is beside the ground and Monument is a short walk away, but matchday crowd controls can alter entry and exit; allow for the climb and the Level 7 ascent after arrival.

By bus or coach

City-centre buses and the Tyne and Wear Metro make a separate football shuttle unnecessary for most visitors. Private away coaches must contact Newcastle's safety team for the designated drop-off and parking instructions rather than stopping on Strawberry Place.

Driving

The stadium is in the city centre inside Newcastle's Clean Air Zone, surrounded by controlled parking and pedestrian streets. Do not navigate to NE1 4ST expecting a public stadium car park; use a pre-booked city-centre facility outside the immediate closure area.

Use NE1 4ST only for the general area, then follow matchday signs and the entrance named in your parking instructions. Allow extra time for residential roads and pedestrian traffic.

After the match

Expect the roads immediately around St. James' Park to move slowly while pedestrians clear. Rail users should confirm the last practical connection; drivers may prefer to wait before joining the main route.

Travel, parking, ticket allocations and stadium procedures can change by fixture. Check the latest information from both clubs and the relevant operator before travelling. Guide checked 30 September 2026.
