Make a day of it
The Valley is one of London's simplest rail grounds. Greenwich offers the fuller day out, while Charlton station provides a quick, direct match route.
Arrive at Charlton station, use the Angerstein if it suits your route and walk to the Jimmy Seed entrance.
Eat or sightsee around Greenwich, then take the short train or bus to Charlton.
Stay around Woolwich or Greenwich for better hotel choice and use rail or bus for the final leg.
11:00 - arrive in Greenwich for food, the market or the riverside.
13:00 - take the short train to Charlton or move to the mapped Angerstein route.
13:35 - reach the Jimmy Seed entrance and allow time for a busy concourse.
17:00 onwards - use Charlton station when the first crowd eases or walk towards Greenwich while local roads clear.
The Angerstein Hotel is the mapped away-friendly pub and Greenwich is the broader check-first alternative. The Royal Oak and Rose of Denmark are home-only; the historically popular Anchor & Hope remains listed but clearly marked closed, with the Jimmy Seed concourse available after entry.
The Cutty Sark, National Maritime Museum and Greenwich Market make Greenwich the natural sightseeing base. The Thames Path also provides a pleasant early route before the short onward rail or bus journey to Charlton.
These options keep the final matchday journey relatively short. Compare event-night prices, parking and cancellation terms before booking.
A central base is usually better for the station, food and the evening after the match.
Travel, parking, ticket allocations and stadium procedures can change by fixture. Check the latest information from both clubs and the relevant operator before travelling. Guide checked 29 September 2026.
