Make a day of it
Salford Quays is the practical away-day base: it has mixed-supporter venues, hotels and several tram stops without forcing visitors into the home pubs on Chester Road.
Use Lime, The Dockyard or another mapped quay-side option, then walk from Wharfside or MediaCity.
Eat or drink centrally, then take Metrolink to Old Trafford, Trafford Bar or Wharfside.
Reserve a named official or private space, arrive before closures tighten and be prepared to wait after full-time.
11:15 - arrive in Manchester or Salford Quays and use a correctly categorised mapped venue.
13:10 - move by tram or on foot towards the south-east corner.
13:35 - clear the bag and security checks before the peak queue.
17:00 onwards - walk back to Salford Quays or use the least crowded of Old Trafford, Wharfside and Trafford Bar.
Lime, The Matchstick Man and The Dockyard at MediaCity are mapped away-friendly choices. The Bishop Blaize and The Trafford are home-only, Salford Quays is the recommended wider area, and the East Stand concourse is the ticket-holder fallback.
The Imperial War Museum North and The Lowry are beside Salford Quays. Manchester city centre offers the Science and Industry Museum, National Football Museum and a much wider food and hotel choice.
These options keep the final matchday journey relatively short. Compare event-night prices, parking and cancellation terms before booking.
A central base is usually better for the station, food and the evening after the match.
Travel, parking, ticket allocations and stadium procedures can change by fixture. Check the latest information from both clubs and the relevant operator before travelling. Guide checked 1 October 2026.
