Make a day of it
Tynecastle is close enough to central Edinburgh for a proper city day, but the simplest match plan uses Haymarket, Dalry and the Roseburn end rather than the Old Town crowds.
Arrive at Haymarket, use Ryrie's or the wider Dalry area, then walk 20 minutes to the Roseburn Stand.
Use the Roseburn Bar and approach the north end, checking restrictions for derby and high-risk fixtures.
Stay around Haymarket for easier match travel, with the Old Town and city-centre attractions reached separately.
10:30-11:30 - arrive at Haymarket and leave bags at the hotel.
12:00-13:45 - use Ryrie's, the Roseburn Bar or another mapped option after checking the fixture policy.
14:10 - approach McLeod Street and the Roseburn turnstiles.
17:00 - walk back to Haymarket or wait for the first crowd to clear before using a bus.
The Hearts map identifies the Roseburn Bar and Ryrie's as the clearest away-day choices. Athletic Arms is a high-quality local pub but strongly Hearts-associated, while Eighteen74 is home-ticket only.
The Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art and the Water of Leith are convenient west-side additions. Edinburgh Castle and the Old Town are straightforward from Haymarket but need substantially more time, especially during festival periods.
Tynecastle Park Hotel is built into the Main Stand and is the closest option, though matchday access and prices should be checked carefully. Moxy Edinburgh Fountainbridge is a walkable alternative east of the ground.
The Haymarket Hotel, Leonardo Hotel Edinburgh Haymarket and hub by Premier Inn Edinburgh Haymarket are convenient for rail, tram and the walk to Gorgie. Central Edinburgh offers more choice but adds cost and a longer matchday journey.
Travel, parking, ticket allocations and stadium procedures can change by fixture. Check the latest information from both clubs and the relevant operator before travelling. Guide checked 13 September 2026.
