Ayr works best as a town-centre-and-ground trip: mainline rail, pubs, restaurants and the seafront sit south of Somerset Park, while the racecourse and Newton-on-Ayr are closer to the stadium.

Newton-on-Ayr route
Use the closer station only when the timetable works, check the Wallace and continue to the away turnstiles.
Stay overnight
Base yourself centrally or near the seafront for restaurants, Burns country and an easier rail day.
A sensible 3pm plan
11:00 - arrive at Ayr station and decide between the centre, seafront or an early visit farther south to Burns country.
12:15-13:35 - use the West Kirk, Wellingtons or another mapped option after checking admission.
14:00 - begin the walk to Somerset Park and follow the turnstile on the ticket.
17:00 - walk back towards the centre or station while immediate road traffic settles.
Food and pubs
The Wallace is closest to Somerset Park; the West Kirk and Wellingtons broaden the town-centre choice. None publishes a permanent away-colours policy, so every venue remains check-first.
If you have extra time
Ayr beach and Low Green fit a central plan. Robert Burns Birthplace Museum and Alloway are farther south and require an earlier start plus bus, taxi or car time.
Hotels near Somerset Park
Western House Hotel at Ayr Racecourse is the clearest near-ground choice. Travelodge Ayr is useful for A77 drivers but is less convenient for a walking town-centre evening.
Town-centre and seafront hotels
Mercure Ayr Hotel is central for the station and pub area. Fairfield House Hotel sits closer to the seafront while remaining walkable from the centre.
