Greenock can be a direct Cartsdyke-and-ground trip or a longer Clyde day beginning in the town centre. The centre has the broader food and pub choice; Cappielow itself has the clearest away-friendly venue.

Town centre first
Arrive at Greenock Central, use a checked Cathcart Street venue, then take a bus or local train east.
Stay overnight
Base yourself by the waterfront or west of the centre, accepting that Greenock has no conventional hotel beside the turnstiles.
A sensible 3pm plan
11:15 - arrive at Greenock Central for the centre, waterfront or a short attraction visit.
12:15-13:30 - use the James Watt or another central venue after checking admission, or travel early to the Norseman.
13:50 - take the local train, bus or walk east and allow time to find the correct stand or terrace entrance.
17:00 - walk to Cartsdyke or let the first A8 traffic queue settle before leaving.
Food and pubs
The Norseman has the strongest current mixed-supporter evidence and sits beside Cappielow. The James Watt is a convenient central fallback but remains check-first because it publishes no permanent away-colours policy.
If you have extra time
Custom House Quay, the Esplanade and Beacon Arts Centre fit a waterfront visit. The McLean Museum and Art Gallery is farther west; check current opening hours before building it into the day.
Hotels closest to the stadium
There is no conventional hotel immediately beside Cappielow. Premier Inn Greenock at James Watt Dock is the nearest practical waterfront chain option, still requiring a walk, bus or taxi to the ground.
Town-centre and west Greenock hotels
The Tontine Hotel is west of the centre near Ardgowan Square and suits an overnight stay better than a direct stadium walk. Compare current availability, transport and cancellation terms.
